Snowline Living Well with Dementia Educational Series

Snowline Living Well with Dementia Educational Series is a 5-week education series designed to help early diagnosed, newly diagnosed and/or live-alone individuals and their caregivers or loved ones learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (dementia). The first class explores the four most common types of dementia, how they are diagnosed, the three stages of dementia, and available treatments. We learn about brain health, risk factors, and challenges of caring for a person with dementia, including stigmas associated with dementia and how to reduce them. Three additional classes address common communication challenges, sleep disorders, and nutritional needs. A final caregiver self-care course addresses the stressors that can lead to burnout, fatigue, and poor overall health. It also provides helpful suggestions about self-care for individuals to survive and thrive as caregivers. These courses are offered quarterly and are part of the Early Diagnosed, Live Alone, and Snowline Memory Transitions programs.

Snowline Living Well with Dementia: Addressing Challenging Symptoms Educational Series

Snowline Living Well with Dementia: Addressing Challenging Symptoms caregiver educational series covers a variety of dementia related behaviors that can be challenging. Topics addressed in the series are communication, sleep disturbances, late-day confusion, inappropriate behaviors, agitation/aggression, depression, hallucinations/delusions, getting lost, and nutrition. These no-cost monthly offerings are available to the general community, last approximately 90 minutes, and allow time for questions and answers. As part of this educational series, our Dementia Care Manager or MSW will be available to provide a one-time consultation for behavioral management training and support in the home of the person with dementia and their caregiver free of charge.

Snowline Living Well with Dementia Support Group & Living Well Buddies Support Group

These parallel groups support people with dementia as well as their caregivers or other loved ones caring for or supporting them.  Meetings are held monthly at Snowline’s administrative office or other community locations.  The group’s goals are to provide a welcoming, non-judgmental space to promote emotional and physical health, sound caregiving strategies, awareness of resources, problem-solving, stress reduction and personal growth.  Attending this group should be seen as self-care.  Depending on the group’s size, meetings will last 60-90 minutes to allow all to participate.

Community Education

Dementia Connection staff offer education to local businesses, faith communities and medical professionals. These classes are scheduled on-site to host organizations for approximately 60-90 minutes and help bring dementia awareness to employees or community members so that they can better meet the needs of individuals with dementia. These engaging, interactive presentations focus on their audiences’ needs and level of medical knowledge. Continuing education units are offered for many disciplines. See the contact information below to schedule an event or attend a class that is open to the public.
